Tony Roe's Tin Men and the Telephone
Op 25 februari verwelkomen we een fantastische band in Brouwerij Martinus: Tin Men and the Telephone, de band van pianist Tony Roe, die in 2024 de prestigieuze Boy Edgarprijs won.
Dit innovatieve Amsterdamse trio, dat naast Tony Roe bestaat uit Pat Cleaver op bas en Jamie Peet op drums, blijft grenzen verleggen op het gebied van improvisatie, met behulp van de nieuwste technologie. In de afgelopen jaren bouwden zij een indrukwekkend oeuvre op, met optredens over de hele wereld, samenwerkingen met orkesten, workshops aan conservatoria, educatieve programma’s voor middelbare scholen en speciaal ontwikkelde shows voor muziektechnologie-evenementen.
In 2013 ontwikkelden zij hun eigen mobiele app, Tinmendo, waarmee het publiek actief kon meedoen tijdens de concerten. Zelfs tijdens de pandemie wisten de Tin Men hun interactieve optredens voort te zetten in een online omgeving, waardoor duizenden mensen wereldwijd konden deelnemen – en zelfs de controle konden overnemen van geluiden in hun studio in Amsterdam.
Hun show It’s About Time draait om de essentie van muziek. Ze dagen het traditionele begrip van tijd in muziek uit door inspiratie te halen uit de filmwereld en verwerken muzikale flashbacks en flashforwards naadloos in hun improvisaties. Rewind? No problem. Fast forward? Sure. Freeze time? Got you.

This innovative Amsterdam trio, which consists of Tony Roe, Pat Cleaver on bass and Jamie Peet on drums, continues to push the boundaries of improvisation with the help of the latest technology. In recent years they have built up an impressive oeuvre, with performances all over the world, collaborations with orchestras, workshops at conservatories, educational programmes for secondary schools and specially developed shows for music technology events.
In 2013 they developed their own mobile app, Tinmendo, which allowed the audience to actively participate during concerts. Even during the pandemic, the Tin Men managed to continue their interactive performances in an online environment, allowing thousands of people worldwide to participate – and even take control of sounds in their studio in Amsterdam.
Their show It’s About Time revolves around the essence of music. They challenge the traditional understanding of time in music by drawing inspiration from the world of film and seamlessly incorporating musical flashbacks and flash-forwards into their improvisations.
