Sun-Mi Hong Quintet
Sun-Mi Hong, de in Zuid-Korea geboren en in Amsterdam wonende muzikante, is een van de meest inventieve drummers en componisten van haar generatie. Ze verlegt voortdurend de grenzen van de jazz en zoekt aansluiting bij diverse muzikale tradities. Na een aantal prachtige concerten in Brouwerij Martinus zijn we vereerd dat ze opnieuw voor ons komt spelen!
Haar meest recente album ‘Fourth Page: Meaning of a Nest’ was Hongs tweede release op het vooraanstaande label Edition Records. Het album illustreert haar buitengewone vermogen om uitgebreide composities te combineren met improvisatie. Op een creatieve en innovatieve manier verdiept ze zich in thema’s als melancholie en onschuld, beïnvloed door haar Zuid-Koreaanse afkomst en persoonlijke leven.
Sun-Mi Hong, die deze zomer de Paul Acket Award 2025 won, wordt door DownBeat geprezen als een “opvallend originele componiste” en door Jazzwise geroemd als “even boeiend als raadselachtig”.
