Mo van der Does Motet
Motet is de zevenkoppige formatie van altsaxofonist Mo van der Does. De band bestaat uit aanstormende talenten die furore maken in de Nederlandse jazzscene en daarbuiten. Met de kracht van een big band en de flexibiliteit van een klein ensemble verkennen zij de wereld van compositie, orkestratie en improvisatie.
De muzikale wereld van het Motet wordt getekend door lyrische melodieën en strijdvaardige grooves, waarbij intieme melancholische passages worden afgewisseld met orkestrale uitbarstingen. Ze laten zich inspireren door artiesten als Charles Mingus, Maurice Ravel en helden van de hedendaagse jazz. Langdurige vriendschappen en muzikale banden zorgen ervoor dat de musici met elkaar op het podium in het diepe springen.
Het debuutalbum van de groep, getiteld ‘Motet’, werd in 2022 lovend ontvangen. Volgend jaar verschijnt een nieuw live-album in de Reflex-serie, opgenomen in het Bimhuis. De band trad daarnaast op in binnen- en buitenland op plekken als Paradox, Lantarenvenster, InJazz, Canarias Jazz y Más en het North Sea Jazz Festival. En nu gaan ze Groningen laten horen wat ze allemaal in huis hebben!

Motet is a seven-piece band led by alto saxophonist Mo van der Does. The band consists of up-and-coming talents who are causing a stir in the Dutch jazz scene and beyond. With the power of a big band and the flexibility of a small ensemble, they explore the world of composition, orchestration, and improvisation.
The musical world of Motet is characterized by lyrical melodies and combative grooves, with intimate melancholic passages alternating with orchestral outbursts. They are inspired by artists such as Charles Mingus, Maurice Ravel, and contemporary jazz heroes. Long-standing friendships and musical bonds ensure that the musicians take the plunge together on stage.
The group’s debut album, entitled ‘Motet’, was received with acclaim in 2022. Next year, a new live album will be released in the Reflex series, recorded at the Bimhuis. The band has also performed at venues in the Netherlands and abroad, including Paradox, Lantarenvenster, InJazz, Canarias Jazz y Más, and the North Sea Jazz Festival. And now they’re going to show Groningen what they’ve got!
