Martí Mitjavila Trio
In het Martí Mitjavila Trio draait het om de klarinet, een prachtig maar onderbelicht jazzinstrument. Dit akkoordloze trio staat in de New Yorkse jazztraditie (Gershwin, Monk, Rollins), maar de muziek van het trio is ook actueel en verkent nieuwe klanken met eigen composities.
De groep bestaat uit Martí Mitjavila op klarinet en basklarinet, Cas Jiskoot op contrabas en David Puime op drums. Ze hebben onder andere gespeeld op het North Sea Jazz Festival, het Amsterdamse Grachtenfestival en het Alhambra Vic Jazz Festival in Spanje. Ze wonnen de Grand Jury Prize op het Grachtenfestival en Martí ontving de Best Soloist Prize in de Keep an Eye internationale jazzcompetitie.
In december brengt de groep een nieuw album uit onder de titel ‘Playtime’. Het album combineert complexiteit en vernieuwing met een sterk gevoel voor speelsheid. De muziek is geïnspireerd door artiesten als Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder en Sonny Rollins, die vreugde uitstralen in hun muziek.
In Brouwerij Martinus gaat het trio datzelfde gevoel van vreugde doorgeven aan het publiek!
The Martí Mitjavila Trio puts the clarinet in the center, focusing on a wonderful but underrepresented instrument in jazz. This chordless trio is inspired by the New York jazz tradition (Gershwin, Monk, Rollins) while remaining current and exploring new sounds with their original compositions.
The band consists of Martí Mitjavila on clarinet and bass clarinet, Cas Jiskoot on double bass and David Puime on drums. They have played at the North Sea Jazz Festival, at the Amsterdam Grachtenfestival and at the Alhambra Vic Jazz Festival in Spain, among others. They won the Grand Jury Prize at the Grachtenfestival, and Martí received the Best Soloist Prize at the Keep an Eye international jazz competition.
The trio’s upcoming album ‘Playtime’, to be released in December, combines complexity and exploration with a strong sense of playfulness. The music is inspired by artists such as Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie, Stevie Wonder and Sonny Rollins, who exude joy in their music.
