Maite Hontelé & Ramón Valle
Op 17 september gaan we weer van start! En dat doen we met een fantastisch duo: Maite Hontelé op bugel en Ramón Valle op piano.
Dit duo houdt ons nog even in de vakantiesfeer: kleurrijk, speels en rijk aan muzikale dialoog. Na een reeks optredens op het legendarische Jazz Plaza Festival hebben ze onlangs hun eerste gezamenlijke albumopgenomen: Havana, een ode aan hun muzikale vriendschap, de vrijheid van improvisatie en hun gedeelde liefde voor Cubaanse muziek.
Samen ervaren ze totale vrijheid op het podium, met hun liefde voor melodie als rode draad. Soms creëert Valle een spannend ritmisch landschap waarin de bugel haar weg moet zoeken. En dan weer lijkt Hontelé de piano uit te nodigen om nieuwe melodische zinnen rond die van haar te weven – soms alsof je naar een fuga van Bach luistert. Serieuze gesprekken die kunnen eindigen in een muzikale lachbui, of plagerig beginnen en ineens de diepte in gaan.
De Nederlandse Maite Hontelé woonde jarenlang in Colombia en gaf met haar salsa-band concerten over de hele wereld. Voor haar album Cuba Linda ontving ze een Cuba Disco Award, de belangrijkste Cubaanse muziekprijs, en werd ze genomineerd voor een Latin Grammy. Ramón Valle geldt als een van de meest expressieve en originele pianisten uit de Afro-Cubaanse jazz scene. Hij wordt over de hele wereld geprezen om zijn overdonderende, expressieve pianospel, waarin zijn Cubaanse achtergrond en zijn klassieke scholing sterk aanwezig zijn.
Beiden streven altijd naar de noten die rechtstreeks de ziel raken. Daarom is elk concert van dit duo weer een nieuw avontuur – en dat gaan ze laten horen in Brouwerij Martinus!

This duo will keep us in the holiday spirit for a little longer: colourful, playful and rich in musical dialogue. After a series of performances at the legendary Jazz Plaza Festival, they recently recorded their first joint album: Havana, an ode to their musical friendship, the freedom of improvisation and their shared love of Cuban music.
Together they experience total freedom on stage, with their love of melody as the common thread. Sometimes Valle creates an exciting rhythmic landscape in which the flugelhorn has to find its way. And then again, Hontelé seems to invite the piano to weave new melodic phrases around hers – sometimes as if you were listening to a Bach fugue. Serious conversations that can end in a musical fit of laughter, or start teasingly and suddenly go deep.

Her album Cuba Linda earned her a Cuba Disco Award, the most important Cuban music prize, and was nominated for a Latin Grammy. Ramón Valle is considered one of the most expressive and original pianists in the Afro-Cuban jazz scene. He is praised worldwide for his overwhelming, expressive piano playing, in which his Cuban background and classical training are strongly present.
Both always strive for notes that touch the soul directly. That is why every concert by this duo is a new adventure – and that’s what they’re going to show us in Brouwerij Martinus!
