Flatland Prayer
Ook dit voorjaar geeft de Stichting Jazz in Groningen weer ruimte aan talentvolle jonge musici: opkomende sterren aan het Nederlandse jazzfirmament met frisse nieuwe muziek.
Flatland Prayer wordt geleid door de Amerikaanse bassist River Adomeit, met zangeres Līva Dumpe en trompettist Antonio Moreno. De band was dit jaar één van de prijswinnaars van The Records, een prestigieuze prijs voor jonge musici die wordt toegekend door de Keep An Eye Foundation om bij te dragen aan hun zichtbaarheid en ontwikkeling.
Flatland Prayer kreeg hierdoor de kans om hun tweede album Fanatic te realiseren. Het album is een tweeluik: het eerste deel zoomt in op de bestorming van het Capitool op 6 januari, in deel twee klinkt de teleurstelling over de linkse reactie op Trumps herverkiezing. Het drietal vult elkaar moeiteloos aan. Antonio’s trompet doet meer dan alleen de melodie dragen; hij stuurt ook het ritme en de groove. River componeert, Līva interpreteert.
Adomeit is een geboren verhalenverteller die opgroeide met de typische Amerikaanse klanken van jazz, folk en bluegrass. Die muzikale wortels gaat de band in Brouwerij Martinus op een verrassend eigentijdse manier laten klinken: een eigenzinnige sound die soepel balanceert tussen traditie en frisse, eigentijdse jazzavonturen.

This Spring the Stichting Jazz in Groningen is once again giving talented young musicians a chance to shine: rising stars in the Dutch jazz scene with fresh new music.
Flatland Prayer is led by American bassist River Adomeit, with singer Līva Dumpe and trumpeter Antonio Moreno. The band was one of this year’s winners of The Records, a prestigious award for young musicians presented by the Keep An Eye Foundation to contribute to their visibility and development.
This gave Flatland Prayer the opportunity to release their second album, Fanatic. The album is a diptych: the first part zooms in on the storming of the Capitol on January 6, while the second part expresses disappointment with the left-wing reaction to Trump’s re-election. The trio complement each other effortlessly. Antonio’s trumpet does more than just carry the melody; it also drives the rhythm and groove. River composes, Līva interprets.
Adomeit is a born storyteller who grew up with the typical American sounds of jazz, folk, and bluegrass. The band will showcase these musical roots in a surprisingly contemporary way at Brouwerij Martinus: a unique sound that smoothly balances tradition with fresh, contemporary jazz adventures.
