Sam Newbould Quintet
De in Yorkshire geboren altsaxofonist Sam Newbould staat aan het hoofd van een bekroonde, vijfkoppige internationale formatie die voortkomt uit de bruisende Amsterdams jazzscene. De groep bestaat naast Newbould uit Bernard van Rossum op tenorsaxofoon, Xavi Torres op piano, Jort Terwijn op bas en Guy Salamon op drums.
Hun muziek wordt omschreven als “adembenemend, soms introvert en intiem en dan weer uitbundig” (SWN Talent Award) en combineert virtuositeit met stuwende grooves en speelse melodieën die in je hoofd blijven hangen. Met hun meest recente album Homing, genomineerd voor een Edison Award, heeft de band zijn plaats op het internationale toneel veroverd met optredens op Jazzahead 2025, het North Sea Jazz Festival, Love Supreme, het Bimhuis en The Vortex.
In Brouwerij Martinus gaat dit quintet ons een voorproefje laten horen van nieuwe muziek van hun vierde album, dat later dit jaar uitkomt, evenals muziek van hun fantastische album Homing.

Yorkshire-born alto saxophonist Sam Newbould leads an award-winning, five-piece international ensemble that has emerged from Amsterdam’s vibrant jazz scene. Alongside Newbould the group comprises Bernard van Rossum on tenor saxophone, Xavi Torres on piano, Jort Terwijn on bass and Guy Salamon on drums.
Their music has been described as “breathtaking, at times introverted and intimate, and at others exuberant” (SWN Talent Award) and combines virtuosity with driving grooves and playful melodies that stick in your head. With their latest album Homing, nominated for an Edison Award, the band has secured its place on the international stage with performances at Jazzahead 2025, the North Sea Jazz Festival, Love Supreme, the Bimhuis and The Vortex.
At Brouwerij Martinus, this quintet will give us a sneak preview of new music from their fourth album, due out later this year, as well as tracks from their fantastic album Homing.
