Xavi Torres Trio
De Spaanse pianovirtuoos Xavi Torres is één van de opvallendste jonge muzikanten in de Europese jazzscene. Hij woont afwisselend in Barcelona en Amsterdam, nadat hij klassieke muziek en jazz heeft gestudeerd aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Hij heeft diverse prijzen gewonnen, waaronder de Dutch Jazz Competition met zijn trio, de Enderrock-prijs voor beste album in 2020 en 2024, en de prijs voor beste jazzband van Catalonië. Hij is de tweede Spaanse muzikant ooit die de finale haalde van de prestigieuze Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in december 2018, na Jorge Rossy in 1992.
De liveshows van het trio zijn krachtig en getuigen van een sterke aandacht voor details en nuances. Het trio is ritmisch zeer sterk en tegelijkertijd creatief en uiterst fantasierijk, waarbij de mediterrane roots van de leider worden gecombineerd met de Amsterdamse ervaring, klassieke muziek en Zuid-Amerikaanse ritmes. De composities en hun samenspel zijn voortdurend in ontwikkeling en verkenning, wat elk optreden fris houdt. We kijken ernaar uit om Xavi Torres en zijn trio te verwelkomen in Brouwerij Martinus!
Spanish piano virtuoso Xavi Torres is one of the most outstanding young musicians on the European scene. He is currently living between Barcelona and Amsterdam, after studying Classical and Jazz and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He has won several prizes, including the Dutch Jazz Competition with his trio and the Enderrock 2020 and 2024 Best Album Prize and Catalan Best Jazz Band, among others. He is the second Spanish musician to ever be in the finals of the prestigious Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition in December 2018, after Jorge Rossy in 1992.
The trio’s live show is powerful and has a strong attention to details and nuances. They are rhythmically very strong while being creative and extremely imaginative, combining the leader’s Mediterranean roots with the Amsterdam experience, classical music and South American rhythms.
