Rik van der Made: Morning Light
Met jeugdig esprit bestormt de Nederlandse tenorsaxofonist en componist Rik van der Made binnenkort Brouwerij Martinus. Zijn emotionele muziek is helemaal van deze tijd: een wervelende mix van eigentijdse jazz en sfeerrijke folk. De liefde voor pure melodie en harmonie klinkt door in iedere noot.
Van der Made komt naar Groningen met een groep uiterst talentvolle jonge musici uit de levendige Londense jazzscene: de soulvolle stemacrobate Immy Churchill, aanstormend pianovirtuoos Benji Bown, en de ervaren ritmesectie, bassist Niklas Lukassen en slagwerker Jonah Evans. Met deze topband nam hij onlangs zijn debuutrelease op, Morning Light – Silence of a Winter’s Dawn.
Dit jonge kwintet omarmt de rijke tradities van de jazz en de melodische zeggingskracht van de Scandinavische en Britse folkmuziek. Impressionistische klankpoëzie die ook terugkomt in de teksten van veelzijdig zangeres Immy Churchill. Rik van der Made en zijn band zingen, swingen, dromen en verleiden!
With youthful spirit, Dutch tenor saxophonist and composer Rik van der Made will be taking Brouwerij Martinus by storm. His emotional music is very much of our time: a dazzling mix of contemporary jazz and atmospheric folk. His love for pure melody and harmony resonates in every note.
Van der Made is coming to Groningen with a group of extremely talented young musicians from the lively London jazz scene: the soulful vocal acrobat Immy Churchill, up-and-coming piano virtuoso Benji Bown, and the experienced rhythm section, bassist Niklas Lukassen and percussionist Jonah Evans. With this top band, he recently recorded his debut release, Morning Light – Silence of a Winter’s Dawn.
This young quintet embraces the rich traditions of jazz and the melodic expressiveness of Scandinavian and British folk music. Impressionistic sound poetry that is also reflected in the lyrics of versatile singer Immy Churchill. Rik van der Made and his band sing, swing, dream, and seduce!
